Help build something different!
Mill Race Moto isn’t just another café…
We’re creating an independent destination that brings together artisan baking, specialty coffee and automotive culture in a beautifully designed space just outside Colchester.
By day, we’ll be serving exceptional food and coffee, surrounded by a carefully curated collection of classic cars and motorcycles, regular enthusiast meets, and a welcoming community of people who appreciate craftsmanship, quality and doing things properly.
We’re founded by two hospitality professionals with over 25 years’ experience who also happen to be lifelong car and motorcycle enthusiasts. We’re building the kind of place we’d want to spend our own weekends in.
And at the heart of it all will be a kitchen team that genuinely cares about quality.
We’re looking for founding Kitchen Team Members to join us from the beginning and help build something genuinely special.
The Opportunity
We’re recruiting across our entire kitchen team, from Kitchen Porters and Dishwashers through to Commis Chefs and Chefs de Partie.
This isn’t a fine dining kitchen, and it’s not a high-volume chain operation. We’re creating a daytime destination centred around great ingredients, excellent baking, quality brunch and lunch dishes, and a team that enjoys working together.
Whether your strengths lie in preparation, service, organisation or keeping everything spotless and running smoothly, every role in our kitchen matters.
You’ll have the opportunity to help shape standards, contribute ideas and become part of a business that’s being built carefully and deliberately, with quality and people at its centre.
The Role
Depending on your experience and position, responsibilities may include:
Preparing ingredients and supporting food production
Cooking and plating dishes to consistently high standards
Assisting with bakery and pastry preparation
Maintaining exceptional cleanliness and food hygiene standards
Washing dishes, equipment and keeping service areas organised
Receiving and storing deliveries correctly
Supporting colleagues across all areas of the kitchen
Taking pride in presentation, organisation and attention to detail
Helping create a positive, professional and enjoyable working environment
About You
You’ll ideally have:
Previous experience in a kitchen, bakery or hospitality environment
A positive attitude and willingness to learn
High standards and great attention to detail
Reliability and a strong work ethic
The ability to work calmly and efficiently as part of a team
Pride in doing things properly, even when nobody is watching
Most importantly, we’re looking for good people. People who care about quality, enjoy working as part of a team and want to help build something from the ground up.
What We Offer
Competitive rates of pay dependent on experience
Tronc and paid overtime
Company pension scheme
Full and part-time opportunities available
Ongoing training and development
The opportunity to join an exciting independent business from day one
A genuinely enjoyable and supportive working environment
The chance to help shape a kitchen and culture from the very beginning
